Wireless local area network is a method of internet distribution which allows more
than two devices to use radio waves. The distribution method usually has access to the
internet. This kind of network has been designed for small offices or homes for network
maintenance. Different elements connect with the wireless local area network, and the
elements are treated as stations which are put into two main categories; clients and access
points.
The client elements include devices such as desktops, laptops, IP phones, or even
smartphones, while access point elements are in charge of transmission and receiving of radio
frequencies. Access points act as routers (Balazinska, & Castro, 2003, May). Wireless Local
Area Network is a very nice technology and mostly used where no cables are need to be laid
or in a situation where cost needs to be minimized. The introduction of WLAN products has
made it easy for installation and usage of WLAN in the market, and this is because it
provides high-speed internet access.
The implementation and installation of WLAN products usually follows some specific
criteria which include; a range coverage between 50meteres to 150meters, data throughput of
between 1 and 5 MPs, the interference differs from household equipment to wireless
technologies. The amount of consumption always varies from one device to another and also
another important criterion necessary to be followed is the cost of WLAN products as it
differs from one device to another, and this is based on the standards and specification one is
aiming. The configurations of WLAN differs from the simple ones to the most complex and
complicated ones. The characteristics of...
