Quality and Safety Link in Healthcare Setting.
Patient safety in simple terms is defined as harm prevention to patients. According to
Aspden P, et al. (2004). To attain quality healthcare, the care delivery system must work hard in
preventing any errors, if they do occur, they should learn from them and create mechanisms and
a safety culture that involves all stakeholders including patients, healthcare professionals and the
society at large. Patient safety entails the practice of risk reduction related to the exposure of
medical care in a span of conditions and diagnoses (Shojania K, et al. 2001).
According to Mitchell (2008), quality healthcare is the umbrella in which patient safety
resides. Quality healthcare is archived through the interactions of relevant stakeholders agreeing
on certain standards and possibilities to ensure each patient is given the healthcare he deserves.
Safety is the base in which the other aspects of quality healthcare are based, these aspects include
