Fast Tracking and Crashing
According to Ballesteros-Pérez (2017), fast-tracking and crashing are the two methods
that can be used to manage a scheduling problem in a project. Fast-tracking refers to the
technique where activities are performed simultaneously rather than performing them separately
one after the other; this only happens when the activities at hand can be overlapped. On the other
hand, crashing is the technique where more resources are added to the project for the lowest cost
possible to complete the project before schedule.
The fast-tracking technique is more appropriate in cases where the project has to be
delivered on schedule, and there is no option of adding new team members in the project
(Feylizadeh & Mahmoudi 2018). The main reason for selecting fast-tracking is that it does not
incur more costs from adding more resources. Instead, when fast-tracking is used during a
project, more resources will be saved and can be channeled towards other projects. The other
reason for choosing fast-tracking is because the available team can work parallel on different
activities of the same project at the same time (Feylizadeh & Mahmoudi 2018). Therefore, this
overlap could only be for a short time compared to the overall duration of the activities.
Although this technique increases risks, it requires additional coordination between team
members. The third reason for choosing fast-tracking technique is that it helps the project to
accomplish within the shortest time. All the activities scheduled during a project will be rushed
so that it can be completed earlier. Therefore, when the project is done faster, time will be saved,
which can then be used to focus on another project that were running simultaneously. Another
reason for choosing fast-tracking is that there are some cases when the project might be a delay,
and the delivery date has been pushed behind. In this case, fast-tracking will help to bring the
project back to the initial schedule.

The choice of Fast tracking can influence the quality of a project in various ways. One of
the advantages of fast-tracking is that it will help to bring back the project back on the approved
schedule. This issue will help the project to be accomplished within the required time.
Therefore, when the project is done within the required schedule, it means that all the required
elements have been incorporated (Long et al., 2016). Therefore, the q...
