Question 1

Down milling is also referred to as climb milling. Here, the cutting tool rotates with
the direction of feed, whereas in the up milling process, also known as conventional milling,
the machine rotates against the direction of feed (Sandvik.coromant.com, 2019). In up milling
method, the deflection force vector tends to occur in the direction of cut (parallel), therefore
introducing less error on the part being machined. This characteristic makes up milling the
most preferred method for finishing passes. Tool deflection puts waves on the wall; one is
finishing a particularly important issue on thin and weak walls. Also, it is preferred in
micromachining, where small tools deflect much more easily.
Up milling is ideal where power consumption is much considered as it consumes 20%
less power compared to the down milling process. Up milling is a suitable method in an
instance where the cutting tool or workpiece is brittle such as when using ceramics. This act
is made possible due to the cutting tool's minimal contact to the surface at the beginning,
which gradually increases. This gradual loading eliminates the sudden impact,...
