Guidelines for Treating Asthma
Asthma is a known chronic inflammatory disease that is common among children and
that develops in the lower respiratory airways throughout childhood. The global strategy for
asthma management and prevention for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
provides guidelines for the diagnosis and treating asthma in children (Tesse et al., 2018). The
diagnosing guidelines for asthma have been developed to increase the awareness of this
respiratory disease among healthcare professionals and to improve and promote treatment and
management skills among professionals.
Currently, there are four essential guidelines in the diagnosing of asthma in children. The
EPR3 of the National Asthma Education Program, the PRACTALL Consensus Report that has
been published by the European Academy of Asthma and Allergy, and the Evidence-Based
Approach that has been compiled by the European Respiratory Society Task Force (Tesse et al.,
2018). The applicability of any guidelines for asthma rests upon the medications that have been
recommended, the history of the patient, and the optimal treatment plan set for the child.
