Question description

The profession of counseling is distinguished from other helping professions by its distinct set of underlying philosophical beliefs and the state laws and rules that apply to the practice of counseling.

For this discussion, complete the following:

  • Your Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues in Counseling text identifies four philosophical beliefs on pages 27–30. Describe your own view of each of these beliefs by analyzing:
    • How each one will be important to your work as a professional counselor.
    • How each will contribute to your developing professional identity as a licensed counselor.
  • Part of a professional counselor's identity includes having knowledge regarding your scope of practice. Knowledge of the state rules and laws that regulate the practice of counseling is essential to understanding scope of practice. You will be exploring these in much further detail throughout the course, but for now, locate and post a link to your own state's laws and rules for professional counselors.
