Overview
The American Empire of the 19th century involved a lot of imperial expansion to
safeguard its interest in both political and economic influence. They had a powerful naval lobby
and the expansion of overseas ports with the main objective of expanding civilization and
extending America's influence across the Pacific, the Caribbean and to the Western Hemisphere
(Roark et al. 607). However, the colonial-minded leaders were focused on trade and economic
issues rather than having political influence in these regions.
American influence in various territories varied in North America based on the interests
that the United States were looking for. One notable example of America’s influence was the
resettlement of the Native Indians. The native Indians wanted to protect their lands from
invasions in by white settlers 1880s but were quelled by the American troops. The United States
through its Manifest Destiny took control over Indian lands by convincing them with annuities
and reservations (Roark et al.537). However, they did not keep their end of the bargain as the
Indians were devastated by diseases leaving them demoralized ...
