The competence of the nurses is highly based on the skills and knowledge that they are taught in
the various nursing schools that they attend. In training of nurses, two significant experiences are
usually offered to help nursing students to acquire skills, knowledge, and attitude for the
provision of nursing care services (Devereux, Vlachonikolis, & Buckle, 2002). These two
learning experiences are theoretical and practical experiences. However, the environmental
conditions also play a significant role in determining how competent the nurse will be when they
finally graduate. In my nursing school, the two examples of environmental conditions that we
interact with are related to physical and psychosocial factors.
