the civilization of the engineers in the Incas made use of the contours of the topography of the region,this made the roads withstand climatic conditions of the region and were well adapted to the region.modern engineers blast rocks in order to make roads as a results in some cases this leads to landslides,they should emulate the early engineers and use the contours of the regions so that they can construct roads that are well  adapted.
