Introduction
Although the primary goal of a health information exchange organization is the provision of
health records for use by medical institutions, it is vital that they emphasize the development of
business. HIE organizations are like any other business and need a plan to guide key stakeholders
on what to do to release the organizational goals. Traditionally, HIE organizations have had a
problem in developing a business plan to guide the direction of the organizations, which have
often led to the collapse of most.
Apart from this, HIE organizations need to be proactive in identifying opportunities in the
market and adopting a result-oriented work culture to ensure long-term sustainability. These are
some of the strategic planning efforts that will be discussed in this paper to assist the
organization focus on achieving long-term financial stability.
