The impetus for the changes in society that led to subsequent changes in social structure theories are generated from new research which displays the shortcomings of the theory as it was originally proposed.
Choice theory changed because it became clear to economists that "rational" was severely limited in scope and demanded much more than simple assumptions.
Although cognitive behavioral theory has been successful in treating people, its application in research and study revealed the extreme difficulty in matching research settings to real-life settings.
