Yes, the war between America and Spain was splendid and brief conflict.. The war
started as a result of America supporting the Filipinos and Cubans to resist the Spanish rule and
the U.S.S Marine battleship exploding mysteriously in the Havana Harbor. In the 19th century,
America had grown to be a world power but a dormant one hence it chose to indulge in world
affairs. Despite the main reason for America going into war being humanitarian, it led to more
imperialistic outcomes. After the war, America was able to destroy the Spanish army and take
possession of most the Spain empire including Philippines, Puerto Rico and Guam( Berner,
2014). Hence, it was able to join the list of imperial European nations which were acquiring
colonies in Africa and Asia.
Why it was splendid
The war is indeed splendid as it America was looking for a war to fight. It need to be a
world power and to attain these, it had to fight other colonial power to get colonies. America was
able to win the war with a successful invasion of Cuba and some stunning naval victories. It had
suffered few deaths but was able to acquire several overseas colonies. United States, after the
peace treaty with Spain was given the role of being the defender of liberty in Cuba. Wit...
