The Scope of Cyberlaw
In late 1990, the internet exploded into our lives leaving scholars with a disturbing question
of whether a new legal field (cyberlaw) has risen due to the global communications coming into
existence. While Cyberlaw as a subject is yet to be clear of what it entails, her courses have been
accommodated into the curricula of law school as a mere collation of internet related cases and
principles. Professors Lessig and Reidenberg explained cyberlaw as a field that was to be used in the
regulation of human activities online so as to place limitations and constraints on what they can/
cannot do.
Jacqueline Lipton congers with the earlier scholars who tried to come up with answers on
what the judicial or legislation should do when trying to deal with problems posed by the internet.
She uses 15 years’ experience with the internet and cybercrimes to come up with answers relating to
cybercrimes. She draws past experience cases and legislation to try to solve the existing cybercrimes
such as access controls and information ownership. For future problems with the internet, she
