The primary function of the mitochondria is production of energy in the form of ADP. All living cells require energy for their survival and functionality, hence, production of energy is essential and critical to all living organisms. The mitochondria also generates heat for the body cells and this helps mantain body temperature at average level and prevents the temperature of the body from dropping to lethal levels as mitochondria is the primary source of energy in the body
