Etiology
Diarrhea
Secretory diarrhea occurs
when the secretion of water in
the intestinal lumen exceeds
the absorption the amount
being absorbed (Barnes, 2019).
Therefore, when the amount of
water being secreted in the
small exceeds that which is
absorbed, it may result in
diarrhea. Alternatively,
osmotic diarrhea is also caused
by ingestion of poorly
absorbed food substrates as
well as the inability to absorb
certain carbohydrates. Lastly,
viral and bacterial infections in
the bowel may also cause
diarrhea.
It is caused by a virus or
bacterial infections in the
intestinal tract, especially after
consuming contaminated food
or drinks. It is also caused
when digestive problems arise
after eating certain foods.
Lastly, the malabsorption of
Bowel Obstruction
Bowel obstruction occurs
when part of the intestine’s
twists, thus hindering the free
flow of chyme through the
intestines. Apart from this
bowel obstruction may also
occur when by intestinal
adhesions form, which results
from the growth of fibrous
tissues, especially after surgery
(Ripamonti, Easson, & Gerdes,
2015).
