Coca-Cola and Pepsi have the largest market share Globally (Kayabas, Boyraz & Derdiyok, 2018). Drinkmax plans to expand its beverage business soon. We need to find what beverage brands we need to sell in our supermarket. We can either import beverages from foreign nations or sell domestic products. Regardless of the strategy, we will use, we need to do a business analysis and use data or examples to support our option. I want to do my best to deliberate on this case and do a business analysis on the matter. Introduction Our company, Drinkmax, is planning to expand its beverage business. By importing foreign products, Drinkmax can generate high profits but with high risks. By selling domestic products, Drinkmax will have lower risks but with lower benefits. To choose between the two, we need to form a team to do an extensive survey and create another group to gather relevant information. With all the information, we can analyze both options and decide on the best of the two. However, making high profits is the primary criteria. To achieve this, several issues need to be analyzed which are discussed in the following sections. Situation Analysis Our supermarket is currently selling the following brands of beverages represented in the table below with their annual profits. Beverage Brand Annual Profit Coca-Cola (Coke) $35,000,000 Fanta $22,000,000 PROJECT PROPOSAL: EXPANDING THE BEVERAGE BUSINESS Sprite $15,000,000 Dasani $12,000,000 Pepsi $25,000,000 Mirinda $8,000,000 Tropican 13,000,000 3 When plotted graphically, our company’s current beverage brands and their associated profits show the following visual impression. Annual Profit $40,000,000 $35,000,000 $30,000,000 $25,000,000 $20,000,000 $15,000,000 $10,000,000 $5,000,000 $0 Coca-Cola (Coke) Fanta Sprite Dasani Pepsi Mirinda Tropicana Clients The clients are a significant factor for the success of this business. First of all, I will do research and analysis on the age groups, which are the target customers. It is easy to see that young people are our target customers. The second step is to survey because we need the information from the young people to find their flavor. For example, if we get the knowledge that the favorite beverage of our customers is Cola, we would find our further research direction. We can also know whether we need to import. In the next step, we need to find the costs of the most popular brands for our assessment. PROJECT PROPOSAL: EXPANDING THE BEVERAGE BUSINESS 4 Alternatives Drinkmax can either can import two beverage brands from foreign countries or sell domestic ones. The two local products include Cola and Diet Coke, while the imported beverage brands include Beck’s and Hamoud. An analysis of the survey results between the two alternatives will provide a basis for determining the best choice between the two. The options will be analyzed regarding their risks also. According to Newbold and Koppel (2018), expansion of beverages to foreign countries faces many challenges which businesses should consider. Criteria The teams will conduct a survey to determine consumer tastes and preferences by analyzing the customer base between two domestic beverage brands and two foreign beverage brands. We will use the consumer surveys to find out the most profitable beverage brands and also considering the risks associated with each of the options presented below. Drinkmax will not be producing the beverages, therefore the only considerations to be considered are the value added/sales tax of domestic beverages against those of imported beverages. The company will also determine the effect of foreign currency exchange rates of different countries under consideration to determine the net effect on Drinkmax’s income. The company will evaluate the most suitable location which can stimulate the demand for our products through providing easy accessibility of our products. There are also cost savings on when the products are available close to the market. The cost of storage of either renting, buying or building a warehouse will also be evaluated to determine which of the two options is more viable. Here PROJECT PROPOSAL: EXPANDING THE BEVERAGE BUSINESS 5 are the critical considerations of the three of the major criteria we will need to use to evaluate the alternatives: cost, location and storage. Cost Since we are not the producers, we don't need to worry about the production costs. What we need to concern is the change of cost following the expansion. The change in the cost is the franchise cost. We need to contact with the brands we like to talk about it. We also need to know the exact tariff of this product including any additional value added/sales taxes. The potential financial effect of changes in foreign exchange rates will also be evaluated to determine how they can affect our profits. With the information on the cost, we can calculate the budget and profits. After calculating the potential gains, we can find the most profitable beverage brands between the two alternatives under consideration. Location The location is also an important factor since we may need to face the challenge from other supermarkets. There are some spots I need to do more research on, such as school and gym. School is one of my analysis targets because the students are the strong purchase force. Another location is the gym. After doing sports, people will look for beverages. If we find the best place to sell after the research, we could set our supermarket that is close to this location as the primary beverage selling spot. Furthermore, we need to take transportation cost into account. If our selling spot is close to producers, we could save a lot of money on transportation. Storage At the beginning of the business, it is inevitable to have inventory because our prediction is not exactly reality. Thus, we need the place, such as a warehouse to store our PROJECT PROPOSAL: EXPANDING THE BEVERAGE BUSINESS 6 inventory. This factor cannot be neglected because a larger warehouse means an increase in costs. The research on storage is necessary. With a functional analysis, we can see the difference in the cost between the two alternatives. In evaluating the cost of storing our inventory consideration will be given to the options of buying, renting or constructing our warehouse. Audience Analysis My audience groups are the marketing manager who will want to understand the portfolio of beverages which he will be marketing for our company to increase our customer base. The general manager will also seek to know what the new direction of the company after the new beverage brands will be are added to the existing ones considering that his management territory will increase as a result. The marketing team will also benefit from the report to understand the marketing needs following the increase in the beverage brands. Also, the consumers can understand how we have made necessary steps to introduce product variety for to satisfy their needs for many product choices. The knowledge of the audience about the beverage business ranges from a higher level to the primary level. Project Schedule The project is scheduled in terms of weeks from the first to the eleventh week where key milestones of planned activities are to be indicated in the project schedule below. The cells marked by x are the related weeks for the project activities. Activity by Weeks from the start of the project Task 1 1. Conclusion I hope that the in-depth report on analyzing factors of this business can help Drinkmax to make the right choice and help customers to understand our selling brands.
