Description

Complete an analysis of the key external factors that have implications for successful implementation of Boeing’s vision, mission strategy and goals/objectives (VMO). You will examine Boeing’s industry and the competitive conditions/positioning affecting it now or likely to do so in the future. Submit your work in your assignment folder in the form of an approximate 2,000-word double-spaced APA-formatted paper. The title page, reference list, and any appendices are not included in this suggested word count. You do not need to include an abstract.

Your paper should address these topics:

  1. A brief explanation of the industry (or industries) in which Boeing operates as well as context for your Boeing’s current positioning.
  2. Analyze the current conditions in Boeing’s industry and in its relevant general environment and their likely implications for successful implementation of your organization’s strategic goals and related actions. Be sure to address the PESTEL framework.
  3. Apply Porter’s Five-Forces Model to enrich your understanding of the environment in which your organization is now or may be operating. The Five Forces model should stress that this model is used to evaluate the industry, not your selected organization’s activities. The model should be used to isolate the dominant force(s) in the industry faced by all competitors and that produce the greatest threat to your organization’s profits and/or strategy. You should discuss how your firm can provide a defense against this threat or threats.
  4. Describe your organization’s strategic group and construct a map to show its relative market position. Add in a discussion of your rationale for the grouping.
  5. Summarize the threats and opportunities facing Boeing gleaned from your analysis. (SWOT analysis) Submit the SWOT format in Table form and add in some narrative to discuss the threats and opportunities in more detail. Explain in your discussion (not in the table) why you selected them and how they relate to the VMO and organization’s strategy.
  6. Evaluate the extent to which your organization’s current strategy appears a good match for the competitive conditions it confronts or any gaps that must be addressed.
  7. Add in a strong conclusion that ensures the reader leaves your paper with a clear recap of your key points.

The Boeing Company is a multinational corporation that sells and designs airplanes,
rotorcrafts, satellites, and rockets. It is the largest manufacturer of aerospace in the globe
(Malone, Friedland, Herrold & Fogarty, 2016). Further, it is the largest exporter in the United
States and the fifth defence contractor in the world. Boeing is organized into different units
which include defence, space and security; commercial airplanes; and Global services. The three
units are organized to meet the demand of the customers and to ensure that the growing needs are
catered for uniquely. The industry is characterized by technological advancement for
competitiveness. The company needs to be technologically ahead of other players in the market
so that they can be competitive. The fact that the industry competes on technological
advancement; it is the fastest technology growing the industry.
The ability of the country to own such companies make it economically and politically
relevant. In the United States, it is leading in the industry and the products produced are

make the aerospace better than their predecessors, and that is why technology advancement plays
a significant role in the competition. In the industry, there is a lot of competition, and that is why

PESTEL Analysis
Political
Political factors differ from nation to nation. Since the company serves more than 150
countries, is likely to meet different regulations across the nations (Yüksel, 2012). In 1998, the
US eased the regulation for Boeing Company, which made it make profits and sell aircraft, but
some of the countries remain strict, which hinders a profitable business. The company can

increase its earning when the airline companies report profits; it increases the orders for aircraft.
So political and regulation that is put in different nations determines the ability of the company
to expand their services and to maximize profits (Song, Sun & Jin, 2017).
Economical
Economic factors play an essential role in the success of the Boeing Company in the
aviation industry. The global economy affects the buying power of customers. If the economy is
growing and the returns by the aviation industries are growing as well as that of individual
customers, the people increase the purchasing power which makes profits for the company
(Yüksel, 2012). During the recession, the company's revenue dropped since the economy did not
allow airline companies to make profits. Therefore, they had fewer sales. After the recession, the
company was able to make more profits. In 2017, the company was the leading in the industry
with more than 700 aircraft sold for commercial services. From 2010, the global economy has
been improving, which is good news to Boeing. The economic trends have increased demand for
air travel, which has led to enhance the development of technologically advanced products. That
is evident that the continuous growth of the global economy is a favorable environment for the
company to flourish.

Social
People's beliefs and norms play an essential role in the growth of the company in the
aviation industry (Yüksel, 2012). The ability of people to embrace and accept air travel
determines the achievement of the Boeing Company in its mission and vision. People are
socially accepting air travel and considering it safer and faster for both tourism and professional
tours. The fact that people are embracing air travel compared to the past, it has increased demand
for airline services, which translate to increased demand for airplanes. As a result, the company
gets more orders to supply, and that requires them to keep improving on the airplane to ensure
that they meet customer...
