Future directions of crime fighting
Criminology is an extremely varied and open field that is always evolving. Crime
perpetrators are ever advancing their tactics to perpetrate crime to beat the means through which
the police fight crime (Podio and Dunn, 2004). As a result, there is need for the police officers to
adapt evolving technologies to help them in the fight against crime. Currently, there are various
evolving technologies that have been effectively implemented in the struggle against crime such
as DNA gathering and thermal imaging. Understanding the future course of crime combating and
its position within the society as well as the application of the evolving technologies will greatly
help in the fight against crime.
To start with the irrefutable aspect of the future of crime combating would have to be the
position of technology. Technology is a two-sided sword whereby it supports wrongdoers with
powerful new weapons of crime perpetration yet it offers police agencies as well as criminal
justice department influential tools to battle crime. Surveillance cameras are almost in all “high
crime” zones and walls of closed circuit camera monitors recording criminal activity (Podio and
Dunn, 2004). The emerging of fresh technologies will bear a significant effect on the manner
police services are offered in the coming years and the manner police officers will execute their
