Background: In the contemporary world where technology, internet, social media,
globalization, and civilization pervade almost every aspect of human lives, folklore seems like a
thing of the past and irrelevant.
Hook: Myths, traditional songs, legends, and other forms of folklore continue to be present
in the current world leading to the questions of whether folklore has a place in the current world.
Thesis: Although modernity may seem to fade folklore in current culture, selected urban
legends show that folklore represents people’s modern problems, captures advancements in
technology, and reflects human life and experiences in modern life thus cementing folklores
place in current society.
Body
Argument 1: Folklore has its place in modern society because it represents people’s modern
problems. Urban legend such as Choking Doberman is about burglary, which is a common issue
in current worlds and culture
Argument 2: Folklore has its place in the modern world because they have evolved to
capture the advancements in technology such as the internet. Technology has created subcultures
with distinct beliefs, tales, jokes, which are shared in a distinct way through the internent, ahd
impacts people in the society.
Argument 3: Folklore explores themes that dominate human life and experiences including
work, love, and emotions. Folklore has changed its themes, characters, and settings, to ensure
that it captures this current human life and experiences.

Conclusion
Modern legends reflect human experiences and life in the current world, it has accounted for
changes in technology, and it is a reflection of modern social challenges. Therefore, folklore has
a huge place in the current cultures.
