Variable X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6 use the interval scale unit of measurement which show the
level of intensity for the participants in the data collection and data analysis process.
X7
Gender (1=male, 2=female)
Variable X7 uses the nominal scale for the scale of measurement
X8
Approximate distance in miles from your residence to club in miles?______
X9
Total family income in thousands?______
Variable X8 and X9 uses the ratio scale for the unit of measurement
2.
For each research question please state the variable or variables involved in each
research question and the data analysis technique or techniques to be used. Even if a single
research objective may require you to conduct the same analysis multiple times (but for different
variables), you still you have to mention variable or variables involved and data analysis
technique to use in each situation. Be as clear as possible.
X1
The country club the respondent belongs to (1=Statesboro Country Club, 2=CRCC, &
3=Moorehead CC)
For X1 the analysis will involve investigation of the frequency.

Gender (1=male, 2=female)
In this case the investigation will be for the frequencies for the female and the male gender and
this is because the variable is discrete in nature.

Approximate distance in miles from your residence to club in miles?______
X9
Total family income in thousands?______
In variable X8 and X9 the analysis will be involving the means
Applied Research - Project 1
Summer 2019
PRIVATE
The Chestnut Ridge Country Club (CRCC) has maintained a distinguished
reputation as one of the outstanding country clubs in the Statesboro, area.
The club's golf facilities are said by some to be the finest in the state.
However, the club is currently concerned about the number of people
seeking membership with CRCC. The number of membership applications
received each year in the last 5 years seems to be declining. The club also
believed that membership applications at the two competing country clubs
in the area – namely Statesboro Country Club and Moorehead Country Club
may not be experiencing similar declines. A study conducted 5 years ago
showed the market shares to be: Statesboro = 38%, Chestnut Ridge =
40%, & Moorehead = 22%.
To gain more insight into this issue, a research was conducted by using the
mailing list of a reputed golf and club magazine. Based on zip codes, a
survey was mailed all subscribers in the area. The goals of the research
study were: (1) to determine the approximate market share of each club,
(2) to determine the demographic profile of the membership for each club,
(3) to outline areas in which CRCC fared poorly in relation to other clubs in
the area, (4) to find how well selected club attributes relate to overall
rating of the clubs, and (5) to provide recommendations to increase
membership at the club. Variables investigated are provided below:
X1

PRIVATE Objective 1tc \l 1 "Objective 1"
Decision Question: Determine the current market shares of the
three country clubs.
Research Question: Determine the approximate market share of each
country club based on data.
PRIVATE Objective 2tc \l 1 "Objective 2"
Decision Question: Determine the demographic profile (if one is
identifiable) for each of the country clubs.
Research Question: Determine if demographic variables such as gender,
approximate distance from residence to club, and family income have any
influence on club membership.
PRIVATE Objective 3tc \l 1 "Objective 3"
Decision Question: For each of the club attributes and the overall
rating, how did each of the country clubs fare?
Research Question: How similar or different are the mean attributes among
the three clubs?
PRIVATE Objective 4tc \l 1 "Objective 4"
Decision Question: Does club attributes influence club rating?
Research Question: Determine the relationship between the club attributes
and overall club rating.
Once all analyses are run interpret findings from each analysis and
state your conclusions (this part is your detail findings section in the part 2
of the project). Then use all the findings collectively (opportunities,
threats, strengths, & weaknesses) to recommend a marketing strategy to
improve CRCC membership. When making your recommendations, please
be specific (this part of your paper is the “discussion” and
recommendations).
Part 1 – Blueprint – Please submit this on or before the dead line which
is mentioned in the syllabus. What should contain in the blueprint is as
follows.
Provide the highest level of measurement for each of the x1 through x9
variables.
For each research question please state the variable or variables involved
in each research question and the data analysis technique or techniques to
be used. Even if a single research objective may require you to conduct
the same analysis multiple times (but for different variables), you still you
have to mention variable or variables involved and data analysis technique
to use in each situation. Be as clear as possible.
Part 2 – Completed Project – I need a hardcopy in class the day it is
due. In addition, I also need a digital copy of your project and data file on
blackboard as well.
Your Part - 2 is the completed project and should include the following
sections in the order provided below. Use a binder clip (don’t stable):
Cover or title page
Table of Contents
Executive Summary
Detail Findings
Discussion and Recommendations
Appendix A (need at least 5 meaningful illustrations) .
Appendix B (all spss outputs pertaining to the research objectives)
Honesty Statement signed and dated
Each bullet is explained further below:
a.
Executive summary
Should briefly state what you did, what you found, and what
your recommend. This should be very short and not more than
1 page and should written once detail finds and
recommendations are made.
b.
Detail Findings
Should contain your research question, analysis that was run
(was it a crosstabulation, mean comparison etc.), key findings
(interpretation of the key statistics in the output), and
conclusion (often this is simply providing the answer to the
research question that was investigated). Do this for each of
the research question. Note each research objective could have
multiple research questions.
research objective------> analysis------> findings----->conclusions
c.
Discussion & Recommendations
In this section you will discuss all your findings
taken as a whole keeping in mind why the study was conducted
in the first place. A good discussion always leads to solid
recommendations. Make sure the recommendations are
justified if justification was not provided in the discussion.
d.
Appendix A
Contain all your illustrations such as pie charts, bar charts,
graphs, tables etc. These should be referred to and briefly
discussed in the detail findings of the paper. Emphasize what
information the illustrations are communicating. I need at
least 5 meaningful charts.
Appendix B
All SPSS outputs that were created by running analyses stated
in the blueprint. Please have them in order in the appendix.
Do not refer to Appendix B in your detail findings. If you run
wrong analyses, please delete them.
e.
Signed Honesty Statement
Type your name & date after the statement that is provided in
the syllabus. You can copy and paste it.
In summary, all reports require a Cover Page, Table of Content with page
numbers, Executive Summary, Detail Findings, Discussion &
Recommendations followed by Appendix A and B (In the same order).
Cover page and Table of Content need not be numbered. However, all
pages in the Executive Summary, Detail Findings, Discussion &
Recommendation sections should be numbered consecutively. Use a blank
page to separate each of the appendixes.
You may wish to look at the syllabus to know criteria used for grading the
completed project.
