This activity requires students to assimilate all information presented in Modules 5 and 6 into the final case study due in Module 9.
For this activity, you will post a draft copy of Phase 2 of your final case study. In Phase 2, and based on the primary vulnerability identified in Phase 1, you will evaluate the readiness of your workplace/community/region to respond to this mass fatality event, with respect to performing recovery and morgue operations and facilitating access to mental/behavioral health services to the family members, responders, and survivors.
Phase 2: PreparednessIn Phase 2, and based on the primary vulnerability identified in Phase 1, you will
evaluate the readiness of your workplace/community/region/state/country to
respond to and recover from this mass fatality event. Consider transportation,
communications, engineering and public services, firefighting and security
capabilities, logistics and resource management, public health and medical services,
search and rescue capabilities, morgue operations, and facilitating access to
mental/behavioral health services for survivors and responders. See the following
FEMA document for guidance on Emergency Support Functions (ESF):

A draft of this phase is due in Module 6 and is worth 10% of your final grade.

Preparedness
Vulnerabilities, in most cases, result in a massive loss of lives, properties, and adverse
impacts on the economy. To manage the magnitude of the damage caused by the
vulnerability issues, the relevant organs and bodies must be put in place to assist in
preparation for the disaster. Appropriate preparedness is the best tool that can be used to
respond to the occurrence of the extreme events that usually result in mass fatality. The
system vulnerability at the airport may allow a hacker to gain unauthorized access into the
airport’s jet fuelling system and cause severe damage (Minas et al., 2015). Effective
preparedness measures should, therefore, be put in place to respond to such events.
Beginning with the transportation preparedness, the state and airport emergency
response unit has invested in ambulances and airlifting planes to facilitate the transportation
of the victims to the health facilities (Minas et al., 2015). The state has allocated funds to
purchase and maintain more ambulances that can be used to offer the transportation of the
victims faster to the hospitals (Medina, 2016). Besides, the aircraft can be used to airlift the
victims in critical conditions to referral hospitals where they can get emergency health
services. The tr...
