Consider the reaction following reaction. Answer question B.

6 H2(g) + P4(g) → 4 PH3(g)
(a) Using data from Appendix C, calculate ΔG° at 298 K.
 
Given: 29.2 kJ

(b) Calculate ΔG° at 298 K if the reaction mixture consists of 7.8 atm of H2, 0.049 atm of P4, and 0.24 atm of PH3.

ΔG =ΔG° + RT*LnQ 

Q = P^4(PH3) / P^6(H2) x P(P4)

Q = (0.24)^4 / (7.8)^6 x (0.049) = 0.0033/9007.98    = 3.4 *10^-7

given

ΔG = - 33.3 kJ/mol 
T = 298 K 
R = 29.2 J/K.mol = 0.0292 kJ/K.mol 

ΔG = ΔG° + (0.0292)(298) Ln (3.4*10^7)

-40 = ΔG° + (0.0292)(298) Ln (3.4*10^7)

-40 = ΔG° -128

ΔG° = 128-40 = 88 kj/mol   answer
