Week 1: ACE
There has been increasing cases of ACE as a large population has one of the ACE such as
the emotional, physical and sexual abuse as well as the mental illness of the parents, substance
dependence and divorce (Harris, 2014). The study on ACE provides a significant connection
between ACE and the health outcomes such that the higher the ACE scores, the worse records
for a person's health outcomes (Harris, 2014). Therefore, a high score of ACE could be an
indicator of a public health crisis. Individuals with high ACE score have a high risk of
contracting diseases and conditions such as hepatitis, depression, lung cancer, and heart disease.
It is essential to note that children are sensitive to repeated levels of stress since their bodies and
brains are developing and thus affects their brain development and function (Harris, 2014).
Stress also affects children’s immune system. Patients with high ACE scores need treatment
strategies with the best practices such as home visits as well as mental health care coordination
and nutrition care. Such conditions can be challenging to manage as they have an impact on the
healthcare operations, thus leading to a public health crisis.
