Description

Prepare this assignment as a 1,500-1,750 word paper using the instructor feedback from the previous course assignments and the guidelines below.

PICOT Question

Revise the PICOT question you wrote in the Topic 1 assignment using the feedback you received from your instructor.

The final PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Research Critiques

In the Topic 2 and Topic 3 assignments, you completed a qualitative and quantitative research critique on two articles for each type of study (4 articles total). Use the feedback you received from your instructor on these assignments to finalize the critical analysis of each study by making appropriate revisions.

The completed analysis should connect to your identified practice problem of interest that is the basis for your PICOT question.

Refer to "Research Critiques and PICOT Guidelines - Final Draft." Questions under each heading should be addressed as a narrative in the structure of a formal paper.

Proposed Evidence-Based Practice Change

Discuss the link between the PICOT question, the research articles, and the nursing practice problem you identified. Include relevant details and supporting explanation and use that information to propose evidence-based practice changes.

General Requirements

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Nursing Research and PICOT Question
Patient falls among elderly patients pose a significant risk to their health, which makes it
an important nursing practice problem. These falls result in injuries such as bone fractures and
wounds or even death, depending on how a patient lands during a fall. The injuries and wounds
then increase a patient's costs of treatment, length of stay, and the overall health outcome.
Equally, several intervention methods are currently being employed in numerous settings to help
lower the rate of falls among elderly patients, which will improve their health outcomes. While
these options provide healthcare providers with a wide range of intervention methods to choose
from each provider has the mandate to pick one that best works for their specific situations.
Amongst the numerous methods employed to lower falls among senior patients includes the use
of alarms and improved nurse rounding schedules. Alarms alert nurses of attempts by high-risk
fall patients to move while improved nurse rounding schedules allows the nurses to help patients
up, as they understand their needs (Shorr et al., 2013). To evaluate the effectiveness of alarms
and improved nurse rounding as a fall intervention, it is necessary that evidence-based research
articles be analyzed. In a bid to answer the PICOT Question: In dementia patients aged 55-70yrs,
does hourly nurse rounding, and the installation of bed alarms compared to no intervention lower
the incidence rate of falls during hospitalization?
Background Studies
The first quantitative study compares the rate of falls in hospitals among dementia
patients with a high risk in two sets of wards with different bed arrangements, by comparing
analyzed data from fall reports in both settings (Knight & Singh, 2016). The study's purpose was
to determine the frequency and results of falls among dementia patients with a high risk to fall in
multi-bedded ward units and single rooms (Knight & Singh, 2016). The second quantitative

study by Bayen et al. (2017) analyses the impact of reviewing videos in understanding the factors
that result in inpatient falls. The purpose of the research was to determine whether continued
video monitoring and fall reviews within patients with dementia could result in improved car...
