Rasmussen University The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin Discussion
Directions:
The written word has had an impact on the human condition for centuries. We have all been touched in some way or another by literature. This week, you will take a literary journey by searching the Internet for the pieces below. In addition to reading the story, you should find out something about the author of your chosen piece as well. After making your choice, come back and share your impressions of the story and explain how it contributes to our discussion of the humanities.
Initial Post: Choose one of the following options (or find a piece of literature of your choosing to report on):
“A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner (This memorable short story is about a community mourning the loss of a lonely old Southern woman, who was actually a murderer.)
“Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid (This dramatic prose poem reflects lessons from a mother to her daughter.)
“The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin (This short story captures the complex internal conflict of an oppressed wife learning of her overbearing husband’s death.)
“Exodus” by James Baldwin (This gripping short story describes the plight of a young woman in post-slavery America conflicted between family obligations and trying to make a better life for herself.)
Once you have selected a short story, read the story, highlight interesting parts of the story, and take notes as needed. Research the author to learn more about their writing style and writing features. In about two paragraphs, comment on the following items:
What is your overall impression of the story?
What interesting features did you learn about the author that help you appreciate the story or understand more about the story?
How does this story advance your understanding of the Humanities?
Share a unique literary element such as a metaphor, symbol, theme, or simile from the story?
To whom would you recommend this story, and why?

profession but as a consumer, citizen, and scholar-practitioner, it will
be important for you to become a critical consumer of research, which
will empower you to read, interpret, and evaluate the strength of claims
made in scholarly material and daily news. For this Assignment, you will critically evaluate a scholarly article related to factorial ANOVA. To prepare Review the Article Critique Assignment Guide in the Walden Library, listed in the Week 2 Learning Resources. Search
the Walden Library for a quantitative article that applies
factorial analysis of variance. Note that sometimes these are referred
to as “two-way ANOVAs.” The Assignment Write a 2- to 3-page critique of the research you found in the Walden Library that includes responses to the following prompts: Why did the authors select factorial ANOVA in the research? Do you think this test was the most appropriate choice? Why or why not? Did the authors display the results in a figure or table? Does the results table stand alone? In other words, are you able to interpret the study from it? Why or why not?Note ALL AREAS MUST BE CITED AND REFERENCED IN APAI am attaching an example please use an article of your choosing thanks

In a study done by Australian students, the concepts of empathy were explored, as well as studying the way that society perceives substance abuse (Shepherd & Pinder, 2012). The goal of this study was for the students to learn how to use empathy, even when they had been raised and studied the stigma of substance abuse, and they did this by doing their own studies and self-directing their learning (Shepherd & Pinder, 2012). This study shows that when a counselor puts aside the stigma of substance abuse and instead develops empathy and approaches a person where they are, the person is more likely to accept change.
Part of empathy is unconditional positive regard. Unconditional positive regard states that regardless of what the counselor believes, the counselor shows that they accept the client (Wilkins, 2000). When the counselor uses this approach, it opens the door for the client to trust that the counselor is not against them (Wilkins, 2000). Because of this trust established, the client should be more willing to acknowledge that the counselor is there to help, rather than judge, them.
One of the ways that a counselor can challenge a client in their harmful behaviors is by using motivational interviewing (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016). It helps the counselor show the client how their behaviors are incorrect, while at the same time, allowing the client to feel comfortable and confident in make a positive change (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016). This method has shown to be extremely useful in substance abuse disorders as it can help a client see how their addiction is affecting their personal lives, it can help them seen the need for change, and it can help them plan that change with the support of the counselor (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2016).
Sarah McQueen
Counselors who are most effective at connecting with their clients show characteristics of warmth, dependability, consistency, unconditional positive regard, and empathy (Capuzzi, 2016). Empathy, in my opinion, is one of the most important skills that an addiction professional can embody when treating clients with substance use disorder. Clients who are being treated for their substance use have most of the time lost hope, are ashamed, have been isolated by loved ones, outcast by society, and have frankly lost their self-esteem. They can feel alone and like nobody understands them. I can share an example of the importance of empathy in this type of environment; one of the facilities that we work with, recently hired a new tech. The tech was placed in intake, and was not happy about it. This means, that when she is conducting the intake for new clients, that she is cold and not showing any empathy towards the clients; most clients, recently, get through the intake and leave immediately because they do not feel comfortable staying. This is a great example, because I know addicts in treatment could be looking for an excuse to leave and get loaded; it is important that counselors and every professional at every level treat each client with respect, and show empathy towards every client’s unique situation.
When I think of behaviors and thoughts that are recovery promoting, I think of all the characteristics of addiction. I think of lying, cheating, stealing, hopelessness, depression, and anger; these behaviors and distorted thought patterns are characteristics of the addiction, not the person. I feel confident that once I challenge the client in the therapeutic relationship to recover from their addiction, the characteristics that were there before will no longer be problematic. I can show the client that once they are off the substance, they will not lie, cheat, steal, or be overwhelmed with a loss of hope. During the therapeutic process, I will collaborate with clients to create treatment plans and set attainable goals. Through this treatment plan, I can provide information regarding outpatient services, self-help groups, 12 step meetings, referrals for psychiatric services, sponsorship, and community resources that can provide support for their sober lifestyle.

An individual's social environment, including societal and familial cultural factors, may influence how an individual approaches death or grieves the loss of someone else who dies. You can anticipate addressing grief in your social work practice and, therefore, should develop an understanding of the grieving process. Two models of grieving—the Kubler-Ross and Westburg models—identify stages through which an individual progresses in response to the death of a loved one. Understanding the various ways individuals cope with grief helps you to anticipate their responses and to assist them in managing their grief. Select one model of grieving—the Kubler-Ross or Westburg model—to address in this assignment.Addressing the needs of grieving family members can diminish your personal emotional, mental, and physical resources. In addition to developing strategies to assist grieving individuals in crisis, you must develop strategies that support self-care.In this Assignment, you apply a grieving model to work with families in a hospice environment and suggest strategies for self-care.Submit by Day 7 a 2- to 4-page paper in which you:Explain how you, as a social worker, might apply the grieving model you selected to your work with families in a hospice environment.Identify components of the grieving model that you think might be difficult to apply to your social work practice. Explain why you anticipate these challenges.Identify strategies you might use for your own self care as a social worker dealing with grief counseling. Explain why these strategies might be effective.Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.
