Description

RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES

One research paper is required for this course. The Research Paper is worth a total of 30% of your grade and is due on the assigned date found on your syllabus!

you can write the paper( for instance) on a person ( Napoleon ) , event( Armenian Genocide )or set of people, , ( The Ottomans) no broad topic like the First World War . or Second World War ....

The research paper is of your choice as long as it covers the period that is being cover in the course. The paper will be 10 pages in length, double spaced, using 12 point font, submitted online. This should be similar to any paper you would write for other classes – including a title page, an introduction, body of text, a conclusion, and references/bibliography. APA or MLA format is acceptable.

Proper Citation of Sources.

When writing papers which use information from researched sources, it is necessary to provide complete and correct documentation to show the source of all words and ideas which are not those of the student. Failure to cite a source implies that the information used is the original work of the paper writer – a form of stealing known as “plagiarism.” In the college class, plagiarism is grounds for failure, no matter how well written the rest of the paper may be.

Do not use first person or contractions when writing. Also, remember that a successful term paper is not one that is written at the last moment, rather it is one that has been thought out, written, edited, and edited some more (you may consider turning in a rough draft or talking with me prior to the due date if you are unsure about how to approach writing the paper). Make sure you proofread! Nothing detracts from a paper (or grade) worse than a poorly written, mistake-filled paper.

When writing this research paper, you should attempt to address the following questions: Comprehensive introduction ( includes who, what, where , and when) with clear thesis statement that answers the question.

  • Why is this person or event important in Modern World History?
  • Does this individual or event represent an aspect that helped shape Modern World History?
  • Would Modern World History be different if not for the actions of this person or the occurrence of the events? (ensure you have a solid conclusion)

Armenian Genocide
Introduction
Each genocide has its genesis, and factors that contribute to its escalation. In addition,
genocides represent a deliberate attempt by a certain racial or ethnic groups or partly or
completely eliminate another racial or ethnic group. There also had genocide in which certain
religious groups or nationalities try to eliminate others. In addition, the lack of political will to
decisively deal with the elements behind genocides increases the possibility of such efforts being
replicated in the future at a different location. The Armenian genocide of 1915 was no different.
More than one million children, women, and men of Armenian descent are believed to have been
eliminated by the Young Turk government in an act of ethnic cleansing (Bowen, 2015). More
than a century later, the impact of the Armenia genocide is still being felt across the world.
Historians have documented the untold suffering that the victims underwent and the lack
of compassion for humanity by the Yong Turk government. Since then, there had other equally
devastating genocides, notably, the Holocaust of 1948 in which thousands of Jews were killed
mercilessly by the Nazi (Jacobs, 2016). More recently, the Rwanda Genocide of 1994 acts as a
clear testament that the demands of the Armenian Genocide are very much alike. The focus of
this essay is three-fold. First, the essay seeks to outline the importance of the Armenian
Genocide in Modern World History. Secondly, the essay endeavors to describe a specific aspect
of the Armenian Genocide that has helped shape Modern World History. Finally, the essay tries
to assess whether Modern World History would have been different but for the occurrence of
events in the Armenian Genocide.

Genocide distorts the meaning of "humankind" by deleting specific cultural and
biological possibilities. In this sense, genocide could be said to be a crime against humankind in
general, as opposed to a specific group of people. No human being has the right to determine the
right to life of a fellow human being. In this sense, the Armenian Genocide claimed the lives of
millions of people, in effect acting as a prototype for future genocides witnessed in the 20th and
21st centuries (Dadrian, 2003).
Governments should not be seen to cover up the causes of genocide. If anything, the
government should be very impartial in its investigation on the genesis of genocide, so that it can
bring to book those behind this heinous act. Nonetheless, in case the government is seen to try
and cover up those being implicated with having caused genocide in a bid to gain political
mirage of short-term self-interest by senior government officials, this sets a bad precedent to
potential perpetrators that it is okay to engage in massive atrocities and still go scot-free. If
anything, the government should be seen to remember such atrocities so committed and more
importantly, condemn such heinous acts in the strongest manner possible. This should then be
flowed by a political will to hunt down those behind the atrocities and subject them to the full
force of the law.
Sadly, the Young Turk government vehemently denied, on numerous occasions, that
genocide of such massive scale ever occurred. This is a classic example of government intent of
politically manipulating the truth through content denial, and twisting of events. The Young
Turks government even went to the extent of adopting economic ...
