Paris Peace Conference Significance
This conference was held in the year 1918 by the winners of the First World War. It was
specially organized in efforts to negotiate and strike a deal about peace treaties between allied
and associated powers. A major importance of this conference is that the Treaty of Versailles
resulted from its contents and discussions. It also played a crucial part in introducing the concept
of trusteeship into the international law, especially for the regions that were regarded unable to
lead themselves, and therefore, entrusted to other states for nation-building and creation of the
necessary development foundations. In this regard, it contributed to the formation of the British
Mandate of Palestine as well as the establishment of nation-states such as Lebanon, Iraq, as well
as Jordan and Syria.
This conference equally imposed several and significant reparations on Germans. For
instance, some of the nations that took part in the conference such as France demanded that more
sanctions be imposed on German. While German was humiliated and received huge economic
burdens, it was also warned from initiating any other war. Moreover, this conference was also
important because it also gave birth to the League of Nations, with the mandate to prevent war,

The major personalities at this conference were the leaders of the winning side. They
included Prime Minister Lloyd George of the United Kingdom, President Woodrow Wilson of
the United States, Georges of France, as well as Vittorio Orlando of Italy. All these four leaders
had different expectations of what needed to constitute peace. For instance, Wilson came with
the ‘Fourteen Points,’ which were very idealistic. These points focused on making the globe a
safer place for all its occupants, ways to determine their fate, ways countries should have selfdetermination, the introduction of free trade among nations, reduction of military forces, forming
