Impact of ACA on Healthcare and Finance
The Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) primary features include low healthcare costs,
improved efficiency and quality, improved access to healthcare, and consumer protection. The
2010 act saw more reforms made to it since its passage. The Affordable Care Act (ACA)
revolutionized the healthcare insurance industry in several ways but the effects of the act are
wide. Some of the provisions and changes have impacted the health system in the financial and
organizational aspects.
One significant impact of the act involves the financial aspect of it. For instance, the
increasing premiums and deductibles. Gold plans saw an expected rise of 13.8% in the cost of
monthly premiums (Emrick, 2017). On the other side, the Silver Plans had its rates also increase
with double figures. Meanwhile, the Bronze plan saw a 12.6% rate increase. Members
purchasing the health plans in the health exchanges and don't receive the tax subsidies will get to
pay high monthly premiums. Deductibles' costs rose, and several states got affected, including
Mississippi and Washington. Health insurance rates increased after the ACA implementation.
