1. Why I believe that professional organizations are vital for nurses.
There are various nursing professional organizations, and I believe it is advisable for
nurses to be involved in them because of multiple benefits. According to Weiss and Tappen in
their book Essential of Nursing Leadership Management, the first advantage of nurses’
professional organizations is that their concerns are more likely to be heard and acted upon as a
collective organizational voice as it is hard to ignore unlike an individual voice. The second
advantage still according to the two is that professional organizations empowers the nurses in
that it does not only enhances their commitment to improving the health and well-being of their
clients, but it also gives them the opportunity to work with people in the same field on issues
critical to their careers(Weiss & Tappen, 2014).
Other advantages of being part of a professional organization according to Lancaster is
that professional organizations aids one in networking, provides career assistance, and helps an
individual stay up to date with current news and changes in the field ( Lancaster, 2018). They are
valid reasons why all the nurses should be part of at least one professional organization.
