History of Regulatory Agency or Accrediting Body and Reason for Existence
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal agency under the
department of labor of the US. It was established as an agency under the Occupational Safety
and Health Act of 1970, which was signed into law by President Richard M. Nixon. Congress
created the agency intending to ensure that the conditions of work for the men and women at
work were taken care of through various mechanisms (Maddux, 2016). Some of the mechanisms
that the congress intended to use in ensuring the safety of workers include training, outreach as
well as assisting the workers in their work. The body is also tasked with aiding whistleblowing
though the enforcement of statutes and regulations that are favorable and suitable for
whistleblowers. OSHA became a regulating body officially in 1971, and since then it has been
helping in conducting training, ensuring compliance, and establishing health and safety
