Airspace Capacity Challenge
Aviation is an industry which is continuously evolving. As the human population
gradually increases, the demand for quality goods and services also increases to alleviate undue
stresses. Thus, the field of aviation seeks to provide efficient air travel to enable consumers to
reach their destination within a short period to attend to other matters. However, the increase in
population has forced a majority of airlines to expand their facilities and construct other airports
in new locations to keep up with this demand. As a result, there has been an increase in
commercial air traffic which is one of the major airspace challenges currently facing the aviation
industry.
Increase in Commercial Air Traffic
According to a report released by the Federal Aviation Administration, they project a
continuous growth not only in private flying but also in commercial airline passages. Notably,
the year 2019 is expected to set in a new record with regards to the number of scheduled
passengers coming to around 4.6billion which is 130% higher as compared to the year 2004
(Sunil et al., 2016). This shows a significant increase in the number of people relying on air
travel to meet their needs.
