Electronic health records and patient safety

EHR are systems that store a patient's information and it displays it as a chart. It is the
now modern patient chart paper but electronic. The records can be shared among various health
care settings and it keeps the patient's information secure and it is only available to users who are
authorized. They help to enhance the patient's safety. To be able to accomplish any kind of
research not excluding nursing, one needs to formulate a research question. The technology is
quickly and diversely changing which calls for the need of computerizing or rather systemizing
the health care services to ensure that better services for the patients. Computerizing the patient's
information or putting it in an electronic system eases the access, treatment, and prevention of
medical problems and therefore enhancing the safety of the patients. EHR helps in customizing
the delivery of healthcare services to the patients. This is based on the fact that the details and
information about a patient are put in a system where a care provider can be able to follow-up on
the history and be able to make decisions about the patient.

To answer my question has electronic health records improved patient safety. I would use
Medline and CINAHL databases that are reliable and hosts diverse journals in the field of
nursing. On the search engine, I would use the ‘electronic health records IN patient safety' as
keywords. This is because these keywords are more relevant to my topic of study. Using the
limiter IN would enable the databases to limit the results to articles and journals that are about
the use of EHR in the safety of patients. I would also limit my search to journals and articles that
are peer-reviewed and have been done within the last few years. This way, I will be able to get
more recently updated information and more reliable in academic writing.

Following the search for the articles, I would have a review of the article's titles to get
those that look more relevant. I would then read the article's abstracts to determine their
relevance in my topic of research. After determining whether the article would best answer my
research question, I would then print out the article for use during my research work. The
abstract contains the introduction, research questions, methods, results, discussions, and
conclusions.

Getting relevant information about a topic under research is important. However,
organizing the information in a better way that it communicates the intended purpose is more
crucial. The very first step in extracting and organizing the information about a research topic is
reading through the article and highlighting the essential information regarding the topic under
research. The next step is making a table in MS Word that highlights the purpose of the article,
title, author, results, and methods used to achieve those results as a summary of the article. WellTyped and organized information can then be utilized by nurses ...

Tutor went the extra mile to help me with this essay. Citations were a bit shaky but I appreciated how well he handled APA styles and how ok he was to change them even though I didnt specify. Got a B+ which is believable and acceptable.
