When a significant percentage of the students in a class fail a test, it provides the teacher
the opportunity to analyze the overall test to determine its validity and measurement of the
progress that students are expected to achieve. The result of the analysis would show the reasons
for the poor performance and the appropriate step that is needed to improve their performance. In
the case that the test is valid, the questions would be retained since they represent the skills that
the students should acquire from their participation in the class, which makes an examination of
the measurement method the most source of the solution. According to Cizek (2012), the testing
method influences the cognitive capacity of learners and determines their grades on standardized
tests, which makes it imperative for teachers to ensure its appropriateness for the class. This
assertion showed that despite the validity of the questions and their link to the learning
objectives, the right method could be multiple-choice formats instead of the essay one used for
this. It is the reason why the rating scale would be used to determine the process for scoring this
