Zooarchaeology is the study under archaeology that deals with how humans used animals in the
past (Renfrew & Bahn, 2015). This means that animal remains left behind related to people
during ancient times are studied. The remains are identified and analyzed from archaeological
sites to be able to reconstruct human diet and understand the environment at the time of
decomposition (Renfrew & Bahn, 2015). Some of the remains that are included are such as
bones, hides, scales, shells, DNA, among many other possible remains. There are a lot more
remains that animals leave behind that can be used in studies. There are a lot others left that do
not have anything to do with humans. However, human association is normally sought in the
remains to be able to fully satisfy the interest of studies and give a comprehensive results of life
of humans in the past.
