Since this is a first draft, your focus as a reviewer

should be more on larger issues like clarity, organization, support, etc. than on smaller spelling or

Running Head: Social Media Proposal 1 Social Media Proposal Caleb Hicks Wilkes Community College Social Media Proposal 2 Social Media Proposal In attempts to reduce the amount of negativity that comes with Social media and its effect upon the hundreds of users who spend time on it daily we must first get the information out there. “The cyberbullying became relentless. In October 2015, David, then 16, showed his family an Instagram post comparing his looks to a character in a “Planet of the Apes” movie and saying he should be in a body bag.” (Ladika, 2018). Horrific statements towards people online present a huge threat to someone, it can make them feel horrible or even pressure them to a point where they don’t feel that there’s an escape. Because of this scenario there needs to be a point in fixing social media. People need to see the things that are often swept under the rug as they aren’t deemed to be a ‘serious issue’ or a ‘real threat’. This comes in the form of advertising and showing concern in the situation, this would allow us to greatly increase the concern for the situation and drum up means to further prevent it from becoming more prevalent than it already is. In order to do this the usage of advertising is something of a necessity, this and the campaigning to prevent such events. Many groups have used strategies such as these in the past and as such it would be in the best interest of all those attempting to halt this issue to have efficient usage of this form of media. As such, the best course of action would be to show advertisements and bring attention to the severity of social media and its negative results on its users. The ability for us as American's to advertise such an immense issue and try to halt this tragedy happens to be in the realm of possibility. Given the upsurge of campaigns used to try and reduce threats to people of all kinds, most revolving around the bullying of others, it wouldn't be too difficult to bring this to the attention of larger corporations to assist in campaigning the message. “Every October, schools and organizations across the country join STOMP Out Social Media Proposal 3 Bullying™ in observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal: encourage schools, communities and organizations to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying and put an end to hatred and racism by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of all forms of bullying on all children of all ages.” (Stomp Out Bullying, 2019). Large scale events have been held to try and apprehend horrendous things such as bullying and harassment on social media is exactly that. The emphasis put on making the world a better place for the next generation is tremendous and with assistance from advertising social media could easily become another outlet that allows better safety to its users. Now these ideas aren’t perfect by any means, and people have an endless list of doubts. You can't stop every single case of bullying from occurring online, people can always just make alternate accounts and come back to assault a user. Because of the remaining bullying people will still doubt themselves and compare who they are to some famous model who is adored by the masses. In many cases the people who were bullied in the past may very well preform the same duplicitous behavior that they saw in others. In doing so they can easily become the bullies and seek to tear others down in a similar manner to how they had been in the past. The previous statements are true, there's no feasible way for society to completely stop bullying and people's mentality of who they are in comparison to others. “Many bystanders, even if they feel outraged by the actions of the bully, fail to intervene through fear of retaliation by the bully or derision on the part of the peer group” (Cowie and Jennifer, 2008). No matter what situation people may find themselves in, standing up to bullying is the only way that we could stop all bullying. But to do such a thing is unlikely because of the social impact it may have on the one who stands up for another. Social Media Proposal 4 However, the goal is to take steps towards bettering the world for people who use these social media outlets. If these behaviors are reduced by even a small margin, that opens the doorway for users to begin to cherish themselves and further promote that individualistic ideal. The goal of this is not to completely squander the ability to bully someone, or even to eradicate harshness on social media in one fell swoop. The intent is to plant a seed in the society, a seed that will grow and hopefully produce fruits that pull away from taking such criticisms without a grain of salt and show people that they don't have to be what everyone else wants them to be. It's to show that they can be whatever they want to be. As such there’s no sure-fire way to completely handle such situations. The hope is that people will come about and become a united force to go against the cruelty they witness. This will not only help people to stand up against their online assaulters but also to help build their self-confidence and ensure that they feel as unique as every individual should. In conclusion, we should advocate for corporation to mobilize their advertising content and alert the world to the negativity in social media. Through the usage of these advertisements people will begin to realize what’s going on and a spotlight will be brought upon the issue. This is a means to get attention to the societal injustices that occur on mass media software's and websites. In order to better the society that we’re a part of and make the social world a bit safer for future generations. Over all there is a serious issue that comes in the form of social media, and it’s not being taken seriously enough to reduce the amount of harm done to the program's user.
