How does Ivan fit the definition of a Tragic Hero?
In literature, a tragic hero refers to the character that commits a mistake or judgment error
that leads to their fall or destruction. In this essay, the assigned book is titled the death of Ivan
Ilyich by Tolstoy in 1886. The novella is considered to be one of the biggest masterpieces of
Tolstoy and was written after converting his religion. The novella delves into some of the
tribulations of a high court judge in Russia during the 19th C. the tribulations and sufferings that
he goes through lead to his death from a terminal illness. Using this definition from the videos
during the week, one can easily fit in the definition of a tragic hero to the story of Ivan. This is
specifically due to the various tribulations and issues that he goes through in his career and
