Introduction
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) comprises of a broad
spectrum of infections that affect the genital tract in females.
The patient is Hispanic female aged 23 years.
She complains of a dull pain in the lower abdomen that
experienced in the last three weeks.
She has taken pain killers for the pain but there is no relief.
Epidemiology
Pelvic inflammatory disease is common among young
females.
Many of the cases are silent as the symptoms go unnoticed.
One of the determinant of the disease is race and women that
are unmarried have the highest risk (Mealey, Braverman &
Koenigs, 2019).
It is common among the sexually active women.

The disease is known to lead to infertility.
It creates the need to constantly do checkups for women in their
reproductive ages.
The disease is considered complex and this allow for the
investigation of the infections that occur internally.
The treatment of the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae and
Chlamydia trachomatis allows for the reduction of the infections
(Mealey, Braverman & Koenigs, 2019).
