To Whom It May Concern,

Only about one third of US allow for nurse practitioners a full practice authority. Others
either have reduced or restricted practice. The current state practice environments include three
statuses- full practice, reduced practice and restricted practice (AANP 2013). State and law
licences nurse practitioners can engage in evaluating, diagnosing, ordering and interpreting tests.
They can also initiate and manage treatments including giving medical prescriptions. Reduced
practice reduces the ability of nurse practitioners to engage fully, limiting them to at least one
element of practice. Restricted practice restricts a nurse practitioner’s ability to engage in at least
one element of practice. For a nurse practitioner to provide primary care, they should remain
supervised delegated or managed by other health providers.
