Brianne Lauria Wednesday Brianne Lauria Forum #8 John Mayer Waiting on the World to Change Acoustic e I chose a piece by John Mayer called "Waiting on the World to Change.” In the video he plays the acoustic guitar and sings his song alone. I really like this song because his voice is so pure and having just the guitar playing makes the song more enjoyable. In some ways it fits in with some of the other musical excerpts we have listened to in the other seven forums. When we learned about string instruments, he is playing the solo guitar and you can clearly hear the sound of the instrument. However, it is also different than the operas and other performances we have watched. There is no extra background instruments and effects happening. It is solely the performer and his instruments. 5 Reply Vincent Vitiello Thursday Music Appreciation 115 Forum #8 Miles Davis "So What" https://youtu.be/zqNTITOGh5c This piece by Miles Davis is much like the piece we listened to in Forum #5 by Cannonball Adderly. I liked it, so I decided to choose to listen to another jazz piece. I searched famous Jazz Greats and chose Miles Davis. Yes, this period falls under the heading of Jazz/Folk music and was just as good as Cannonball Adderly's piece for all the same reasons. Rhythm, improvisation and instrumentals just to name a few added to its likability. Performers really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. Although, the individual instrumentals were easy to identify, there was always such collaboration that completed the piece. 5 Reply
