1. Describe the Clinical problem
CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) refers to a chronic condition characterized by the
heart’s failure to pump blood to other body organs such as the liver, the brain or the kidneys.
It occurs when the left or the right ventricles, or both fail and is characterized by symptoms
such as enlargement of the heart, shortness of breath, blueness or duskiness, asthma, swelling
and pooling of blood in the liver or in the general body (Shedeed, 2012). The condition may
arise due to infections to the coronary artery and it often results in weakening of heart
muscles and even heart attacks.
2. Reason for choosing this topic
I choose this topic because of reasons that are personal to me; I lost two very
important persons in my life due to heart failure, my uncle and my grandmother. One of my
uncles from my grandmother’s side had been battling with diabetes and heart disease for
many years. I keep asking myself if physical activity might have prolonged his life. He died
out of heart failure while on life support in hospital. As for my grandmother, her heart had
weakened over time and she spent most of her last days frequenting the hospital due to her
heart condition. She also died while on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
