Description
Class – Please review the lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy.
1. Review the key phases of disaster recovery as outlined in chapter 10 of your textbook
2. Briefly discuss the disaster recovery phases in chapter 10 and their relation to the lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy article.
3. Discuss how you would alter sample plan based on the lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy Article. (Do not give me a copy of the altered plan, simply explain in the paper what you would alter)

Any country should always be ready to counter any disaster that may come about. The
disaster management team should always be standby to ensure that they are in a position to
counter natural disasters that may come to be. Hurricane disaster is one of a destructive storm
that has led to the destruction of most physical buildings especially around the coast of the
Atlantic Ocean (Rice, 2014). They are key phases that have led to the recovery of such a disaster.
This includes assessing the disaster itself and analyzing the types of risks that may lead to,
activating and planning for the hurricane sandy, executing the hurricane sandy disaster recovery
plan, integration of the recovery plan, and finally the restoration and the reconstitution of the
hurricane sandy plan (Beaman, 2008).
To begin disaster recovery action, they need for the management team to plan and
carry out some logistics to establish the required objectives and requirements most appropriately.
Planning provides an effective way in which the incident or the disaster is going to be recovered
or managed. They are five phases that will guide the management to ensure that the disaster
recovery objectives are accomplished within a specific period. The first phase involves the
process of analyzing the situation. This includes future developments that will be established in
the area. This involves information being gathered, recorded, and analyzed and also displaying
the resources and resources (Beaman, 2008). The role of the above processes will ensure that
resources need are availed to the management team and even include those that may be required
to accomplish the mission, for example, the general and command staff who may be needed in
the development and implementation of the recovery plan. This phase moreover, will aim at
increasing the awareness of the complexity, impact and the magnitude of the incident being
covered. Hurricane Sandy is known to be a natural storm, hence the management team is

responsible for assessing the impact that the disaster has caused to the people living in that
particular area.
The second phase involves establishing disaster recovery objectives and strategies. This
involves activating and planning for the hurricane sandy. This ensures that specific, measurable,
action-oriented, and realistic and time frame objectives are covered intensively. Those that are
responsible for ensuring that the disaster has been countered with are fully responsible for
looking for ways that will restore peace in the area. Residents should feel secured and hence able
to carry out their day-to-day activities without encountering any difficulty.
The third phase during planning involves the development of a plan that will be used by
the management team in ensuring that incident objectives are achieved. The team is responsible
for executing a plan against hurricane sandy. The recovery team should be in apposition to
ensure that the plan will be able to rescue the residents of the area experiencing hurricane sandy.
The procedures are to be followed to the later to ensure that no much damage is caused to the
people living in that area. All the activities that are done to recover the disaster should be
monitored by the recovery team to ensure that they are done according to the plan that was
developed in phase two. The plan will hence provide a tactical direction and specific reserves
and resources that will be required to execute the process. Moreover, the plan will provide the
support requirements for the mission (Beaman, 2008).
