Professional Email: Summarizing the Work Week of an Engineer For this assignment, you will write a professional email to your supervisor in which you account for the time you have spent working during the week. Here is the scenario: You are a first year engineer in a large private civil engineering firm in the DFW Metroplex. You have been assigned to work on parts of several of the major projects for the firm. Because all of the projects are being paid for by the firm’s clients, the engineers must keep records of the time spent on each project in order for the firm to bill the clients; this is how the firm makes its money! Each week, the junior engineer (you), must send a summary via email to the firm partner who is your supervisor. The name of the firm is Smart Engineering, and your supervisor is Ms. Kayla Olivera. When you prepare your professional email, you will use the engineer’s billing log on the last page of this assignment. Imagine that you are the junior engineer who performed the tasks listed and kept the records. Write a professional email following the guidelines from your textbook (pages 96 to 98) and from this article in Business Insider. Summarize for your supervisor all the work you have undertaken during the week. Keep your email brief, but include enough details to assure your supervisor that you are working diligently and keeping good records. Organize your ideas by synthesizing each project and its billing information from the billing log. Have a paragraph for each project. You may need to gather data from several days of the billing log as most engineers will work on several projects during a given day. You will prepare your assignment in a Word doc. A Sample of what information you need to provide may be found on the last page of this assignment. The content sample on the next page is based on an attorney’s work week, but provides a good model on how to group projects together for summary purposes.
