Reader-response theory
The reader-response model is a theoretical framework in literature that focuses on the
experience of the reader or audience in relation to a literary work. This is in contrast to other
models that pay attention to the author or the content and form of the literary work (Whiteley &
Canning, 2017). Therefore, this theory recognizes the important role that readers play in making
literary meaning of literary work. The theory advances that the reader is a significant and active
agent responsible for imparting the real meaning of the text through his or her interpretation.
Historicist Theory
This theoretical approach evaluates literature by taking a deeper analysis of both social
and cultural occurrences which surround the happenings being tackled and the effects of such
event in building the story in the literary work (Parvini, 2017). Therefore, historicism focuses on
understanding the intellectual historical account using literature by understanding cultural
situations linked or concerning the historical context. Historicists take huge interest in sociocultural happenings and their involvement in building literary work.
