1. Why Florence Nightingale is Relevant in the 21 st Century Nursing Profession
Florence Nightingale was a phenomenal nurse who implemented many healthcare
changes globally. As a woman born towards the end of the 21 st century, she experienced
resistance from her parents to join a nursing school. During her time, women at the age of 25
were supposed to be married, but she was still unmarried and pleading tirelessly with her parents
to be allowed to study nursing. Finally, she convinced her parents and was allowed to loin
nursing. Nightingale gained her early experiences as a nurse in England, but the Crimean War
offered her a chance to embrace her scientific methods towards better healthcare. Even before
going to participate in the Crimean War, she had a calling to assist many people that she felt
suffered medically due to poor living conditions. Arriving in the war, she and her team of selfproclaimed nurses who were mainly catholic nuns started assisting the English soldier who was
war victims (Masters, 2018).
Having previously studied science and mathematics, she embraced her statistics and
scientific research methods to study the causes of worsening health and high mortality rate...
