Make sure the topic is relevant to the course. Music, theater and dance should be avoided for this assignment. Find an article at the library or online. Some places to look include, but are not limited to: National/World: • The New York Times (any day under Arts section), and New York Times Magazine (Sunday only) • • ARTnews magazine • • www.artforum.com Raw Vision (outsider art) • • www.artnews.com Art Forum magazine • • www.nytimes.com www.rawvision.com Flash Art magazine • www.flashartonline.com Artnet News • https://news.artnet.com After choosing a visual arts article, read it carefully and take notes. Do not choose an article that only DESCRIBES an art opening or exhibit. Your choice of the article is important. Write a reaction report to the article. The paper will be two to three pages in length, double spaced with 1” margins on top, bottom and both sides, your name in the top right hand corner, with a centered title. If the paper is not the required length, or does not adhere to this format, the grade will be reduced. The first paragraph will be an introduction and a brief summary of the article. What are the article, and this paper, about? Refer to the article, not just the topic. (Use terms from the textbooks if possible.) In the second/third paragraphs describe the importance of the article. Why did the author write the article? What is the author trying to communicate? Does the author take a position? Can that position be argued from an alternative perspective? Provide examples from the article. When using words directly from the article in your paper, use quotation marks to avoid plagiarism. You must also include a parenthetical reference or footnote to indicate where exactly your quotation comes from. In the fourth/fifth paragraphs, explain the social, political, religious or creative issues that the article brings to the forefront. (The article chosen must include some or all of these issues.) Articles that merely describe an exhibit or opening generally will not contain these issues. Highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the author’s point of view. What are the pros and cons? What are some alternative points of view or approaches that another person might take? In the remainder of the paper, discuss your own interpretations/reflections. How do you connect to this article personally? Take a position on the issues at hand. Do you agree or disagree? Finally, summarize the paper. Refer to the rubric to make sure all the components necessary have been included for a good paper. Include a complete reference to the article at the end of the paper. Use any style manual (APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, Campbell). Use vocabulary/art terms in the textbooks, including the glossary.

Visual Art Work on Lamassu
The visual art discussed in this paper is termed as the Lamassu (Rakowitz, 2019)." The
author of the art is Michael Rakowitz. The artwork is installed in the capital city of London at a

people living in the area the hope that they are protected by their Creator in the foreign land, and
thus, they are free from any danger. The rebuilding of the artifacts targets the 7000 items which
were either destroyed or looted during the raiding of the Baghdad National Museum in Iraq in
2013 (Selvin, 2019). Also, it will serve as the reminder for the archaeological sites destroyed by
the ISIS attackers across the Iraq State during the said war (Rakowitz, 2019).
The key concept which the author aims to achieve with the visual art is the rebuilding of
the lost culture and heritage of Iraq Citizens. The author deduced that the creation of the
Lamassu is a sign of restoring the lost glory and hope of culture destroyed during the war. It is
important to note that initially there were a protective deity and winged bull. The two items were

by Daesh (Rakowitz, 2019).
The reconstruction work is largely grounded on the usage of the recycled packages of the
foodstuffs. The foodstuffs are often borrowe...
