But who would've thought that a life epiphany would happen in an unappealing atmosphere in the aisles of Ross Dress for Less. When I was at Ross, casually browsing, I decided to buy a light fuchsia sweatshirt with a pattern of wiener dogs printed across the shirt. It stuck out, as it was different and had an intangible feel that the other clothing pieces didn’t. So I bought it without a doubt. The old I would have shied away from the bold, unique option. However, I just decided to take a risk because I truly felt that it looked good and displayed my internal persona. The next day I felt exhilarated that I overcame my drawbacks and broke social norms. I felt like I could show my true self and I refuse to hide behind my closeted feelings without sensing selfconscious or regretful of being judged. Clothes satisfy a human’s basic need to ????. As recently as last year, I wore clothing only for function. When it was cold, I wore a jacket, when it was warm I wore shorts. While clothing reflected the seasons, it did not reflect myself. Fashion offers me the opportunity through which I can stand out and have a unique identity in my community. Fashion has become a means for me to be creative. Just like painting a picture, I love to throw different shades/clothes together to form a masterpiece. The ability to mix and match flannels t-shirts, pants to khakis lets me showcase my inner expressions. Like, buying my first flannel gave me more grounds to work on styling. I vividly remember the first time I bought a flannel after observing my friends and the fashion catalog in one of the magazines I picked and arena of trends allowed me to broaden my means of expressing myself. The flannel was soft, denim, and blue. The clothing was unique. The texture silky. My fashion style also parallels with today's society. The colors that I wear in each of my fits represent my mood of the day. Blue equals chill. While red for me personally shows that I am bold and confident. In today's society we also see colors presented in similar notations. Colors are a prevently form of selfexpression, most notably seen in many modern movements. We see the use of colors in hair color, clothing, makeup, gender transitions, and political parties. Polarizing many aspects of our day, colors send unique messages to the eyes of those that are a part of their umbrella. For instance, our political parties. Blue for democrat. Red for Republican. Each color symbolic of the type of viewpoints and images that are laid out by the people who associate with each organization. Color polarizes different aspects of our community from political parties to the colors on the traffic stop light. Developing my fashion sense drives me to unprecedented growth, as I now explore and use different perspectives to shape and mold my identity. The use of fashion has helped exponentially in self-expressing my persona and my character. I am grateful for learning the different styles and never-ending trends, as they drive me to experiment with new colors and trends.
