A brief profile of the sector identified
The sector that has been identified is healthcare and public health sector. The Federal
Government established the sector in 2003. It is a critical infrastructure sector, and its resilience
and security are vital to the security of the nation. The sector has established various partnerships
that enable representatives of federal, local and state government, owners of the private sectors,
professional associations, and operators to unite. The merging of the partners has improved
sharing of information and formulating guidelines (Department of homeland security, n.d).
The purpose and importance of healthcare and public health sector
The purpose of healthcare and public health sector is to protect every sector of the
economy from the danger that may be caused by terrorism, the outbreak of infectious diseases
and natural calamities and disasters. The sector plays a vital role in responding to issues of
humanmade or natural disasters (Department of homeland security, n.d).
Whether healthcare and public health sector sector's assets are essential or relevant to the
government, private industry, or a mixture of the two
Even though the private sector owns the majority of the sector's assets, all the assets are
relevant to both the private sector and the government. There is an effective collaboration of both
the private and public sectors to increase the resilience of the sector. Without the mixture of the
two, healthcare would have faced numerous challenges than expected.
Healthcare and public health subsectors
The healthcare and public health sector have numerous subsectors. The subsectors are
categorized into private and public sub-sectors. The private subsectors include health information

technology, direct patient care, mass fatality management services, medical material, and health
plans and payers. The public subsectors include public health and federal response and program
offices (Department of homeland security, n.d).
Criticality of the sector
The criticality of the healthcare and public sector is that its success depends on the
support and collaboration of other sectors such as communication sector, emergency sector, and
food and agriculture sector. There is a necessity of effective sharing of information in the sectors
for the response to be appropriate and on time (Martin et al., 2017).
