Assisted Suicide (AS) is when a health professional helps a patient in committing suicide
by providing drugs at the patient’s competent and voluntary request. This issue has raised
arguments in many countries worldwide and the states of USA. For instance, in Switzerland, AS
was legalized in 1937 and Oregon, Death in Dignity Act was passed in 1994 which allowed the
doctor to help their patients who they believe would not survive more than six months commit
suicide (Reiter-Theil, Wetterauer, & Frei, 2018). In 2009, Death in Dignity was passed in
Washington allowing AS. According to research conducted in over 74 countries in 2013, 65% of
the respondents voted against assisted suicide, while 11 countries voted for AS (Olié & Courtet,
2016). There are various arguments raised by both sides on the issue of assisted suicide.
According to those against AS, they argue that people with incurable diseases will be
