The Review
My impression of the movie, "Gladiator" is that it focuses its main concerns on reactions
to different decisions made by parents or irrationally making teenagers and children relate more
to it. "Gladiator" is a movie about a once-influential Roman general, who becomes a common
gladiator. The mighty Roman general, Maximus, is much loved by the people of the Roman
Empire and the existing Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Maximus' love for the people is what makes
the aging Emperor choose him as his successor over the Emperor's son, Commodus. Commodus
does not take this news very well and ends up killing his father and murdering the whole family
of Maximus. He also sells Maximus into slavery, where he is trained as a common gladiator.
However, his growing popularity even in the gladiator ground threatens Commodus as the
Emperor. The only thing that motivates Maximus to fight is to seek revenge from Commodus,
the person responsible for the death of those he loves (Scott, 2013). Moreover, the scenes that
have more potential in the use of intervention strategies would be the death of Maximus family
and the emotions it built on him even after being sold and turned into a common gladiator thirsty
for revenge. The aspects that viewers should look for if they have not seen the movie is the
relationship between Maximus and the aging Emperor before the Emperor dies, and the ruling of
Commodus after his father's death. The scenes that I believe warrant further reflection would be
the scenes whereby Commodus murders his own father and the family of Maximus all because
Maximus was chosen as an heir in his place. The reasons behind this are that scenes carry a lot of
aggressive and violent demonstrations which may as well affect the psychological reasoning
among children and adolescents. Moreover, it can also lead them that the only way to solve

issues affecting them is through violence which may not support peaceful teenagers and children
in society.
Therapeutic Implications
I noted that the client had the need for empathic listening, which mostly resulted in angry
tirades and emotional outbursts. I related that idea to the scene of the movie where Commodus,
due to angry tirades killed his father, murdered the family of Maximus, and turned a once
powerful Roman general, into a common gladiator by selling him into slavery. It is this idea that
showed that his leadership had a bumpy start (Scott, 2013). Therefore, I could use the technique I
am teaching as a way of encouraging the cl...
