The social disorganization theory was developed in an attempt to understand the dynamic
relationships between various environmental and personal factors. The theory dictates that
criminal activity is most influenced by neighborhood dynamics, as compared to personal factors.
Crime tends to concentrate in some regions of a city, and its rates often remain unchanged
despite population change in the region (Seepersad, PhD). Which means that record-high crime
rates, will remain relatively high irrespective of the social groups residing at the location, and
when crime-prone people migrate to low-crime areas, their propensity for crime reduces to match
the low numbers that characterize the new location.
